A new cemetery in Santa Nella, called the San Joaquin National Cemetery had given preliminary permission to
build this memorial.
The National Cemetery System has a few "natural" facilities, which precluded any grand designs that stood out
above the natural terrain. The principal program requirement was to engrave the names and service branch of the
2,495 California Veterans lost. It was named The Remembrance Memorial for California Korean War Veterans.
The memorial was dedicated 1 Aug, 1998. 600 people attended. The Founder and idea person behind the memorial
is Ron Jabaut.
The San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery is located a few miles northwest of Santa Nella. Its address is
32053 West McCabe Road, Santa Nella, CA 95322; ph. 209-854-1040; fax 209-854-3944. When leaving Santa
Nella take State Route 33 north to McCabe Road, turn left and stay on McCabe Rod to the cemetery entrance. The
gates are open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. every day of the year for visitors. The office is open from 8:00
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and is closed for federal holidays. |
